Boot camp: department chairs
A department chair is typically the first rung on the ladder to senior leadership in academia. Yet, many department chairs do not make a deliberate decision to move into administration and lack the training to take on more substantive roles. At the same time, department chairs are a critical cog in the management of an institution, helping to make important hiring and budget decisions, and increasingly playing a crucial role in innovations around teaching, learning and technology.
The academy’s two-day boot camp for department chairs will allow them to discuss and learn about change in higher education, technology, teaching and learning, and help them understand how and why innovation gets stuck in their schools and departments. It will give them access to the latest research from Ithaka S+R and others, as well as the time to discuss, reflect and do hands-on design about how best practices might be applied at their institutions.
